Drexel Falls to No. 24 Penn

PHILADELPHIA - Brian Bonino and Evan Barczak were victorious in extra time against No. 24 Penn as Drexel fell to their EIWA rival, 28-6 on Sunday afternoon at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Quakers were nationally ranked in nine of ten weight classes. The Dragons fall to 9-6 overall and 6-2 against the EIWA.
Penn claimed the first two matches and earned bonus points at 125 and 133. Jordan Soriano battled against Carmen Ferrante but dropped a 5-1 decision. In the middleweights, Penn was victorious at 149 and 157 pounds. In a 165 nationally ranked matchup, No. 16 Barczak versed No. 32 Lucas Revano. At the end of regulation, each wrestler earned an escape point to hold the score at one. In TB2, Penn was not able to contain the Dragon as he escaped with under ten seconds left in the period to earn a huge decision. No.5 Mickey O'Malley and No. 13 Nick Incontrera had the second nationally-ranked clash of the bout at 174. Incontrera scored on an escape point and a riding time point in a 2-0 victory.
No.25 Bonino dueled against No. 22 Maximus Hale in the 184 class. At the end of the second period, the score was 1-0 in favor of Drexel. At the start of the third period, Hale scored on a reversal but Bonino escaped which tied the match at two. The Dragons won in a 3-2 decision on a riding time point. Sean O'Malley pushed No. 30 Cole Urbas to the brink at 197. At the end of regulation, the match was tied at two but Urbas was victorious on a riding time point. Penn won the final bout at heavyweight in an 8-3 decision.
