Dragons Drop Heartbreaker to N.C. A&T

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel women's basketball team celebrated senior day on Saturday afternoon, honoring five players and two managers for their efforts in the last five seasons. In a heartbreaker, the Dragons were upended 59-57 by the North Carolina A&T Aggies.
With the result, Drexel shares the CAA Regular Season championship and is the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAA Tournament. It will play its first postseason game on Friday, March 10 at 5:00 p.m. against the winner of the No. 7 Monmouth vs. No. 10 Charleston game.
Prior to the contest, DU recognized Brianne Borcky, Maura Hendrixson, Tori Hyduke, Hetta Saatman, Keishana Washington and managers Nneso Offor and Cristina Turcan for their efforts to the program.

HOW IT HAPPENED

BY THE NUMBERS
- Keishana Washington scored 23 points. Her 10th was her 770th of the year, setting a new Drexel record for single-season scoring. She ended the game with 783, tied for third on the CAA season list.
- Kylie Lavelle had a strong game with 19 points and a team-leading seven rebounds.
- Maura Hendrixson delivered nine assists, bringing her season total to 219, moving into eighth on the conference single season leaderboard.
- Jasmine Valentine tied a career-high with eight points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams struggled to hold on to the ball early, combining for seven turnovers in the first six minutes. Drexel was able to settle things down and went on an 11-5 run and held an 18-14 lead after 10 minutes.
- Fouls and turnover hampered the Dragons effort in the second period as the Aggies took a brief lead, but DU scored five in a row to end the half, taking a 32-29 lead at the break.
- The two teams played an even third quarter setting up a showdown in the fourth.
- DU got off to a hot start in the fourth, scoring the first five points before N.C. A&T battled back to a pair. Drexel pushed the lead back to 55-49 on a three-pointer by Lavelle with 4:48 to go. Undaunted the Aggies clawed their way back, tying the game with just less than a minute remaining and scoring the winning points on a pair of free throws with 1.2 seconds left.
