Men's Rowing Takes Home Kerr Cup for Second Straight Year

PHILADELPHIA – The Drexel men's varsity 8+ easily outpaced the competition as the Dragons won the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup for the second straight year at the Kerr Cup Regatta on Saturday. The Kerr Cup and trophy are named in honor of the founder of Drexel rowing, Dr. Thomas Kerr, who started the program in 1957. Rowing in Lois Krall III, the No. 15 V8+ of Sam DeSilva (coxswain), John Karen (stroke), Nikola Loncar, Josh Diggons, Damian Lis, James Schmidt, Andrew Manns, Jack Anderson and Andrei Malis (bow) had an open water advantage on the rest of the field by the midway mark of the race and navigated the windswept course in 6:29.5, topping No. 23 La Salle by more than 11 seconds. The V4+ and 3V8+ also won gold on the day. Emma Houghton (coxswain), Vuk Mladenovic (stroke), Kosta Petkovic, Brendan Wilhelm and Carter Hubbard (bow) took Go Roe across the finish line in 7:34.9. In the 3V8+, Charlotte Bentrim (coxswain), George Karacsonyi (stroke), Jono Andersson, Ben Werber, Justin Getty, Maxwell Frey, Aidan Ionescu, Sam Duncan and Anthony Coluzzi bested Virginia by seven seconds by Annette Pennoni to a time of 6:56.1. Next, Drexel competes in the Bergen Cup Regatta against its fellow city schools on the Schuylkill River on April 29. The team will celebrate Senior Day prior to the event.
