Dragons Enter Final Round of CAA Championships in Second Place

SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. - Drexel battled its way through the second round and will begin the final round of the 2023 Colonial Athletic Association Championships in second place. The Dragons were able to grind their way through to remain in contention entering the final 18 holes on the Cotton Dike Course.
Drue Nicholas led the way for DU. The junior from Egg Harbor Township, N.J. made four birdies on his way to a three-under par 69. Nicholas continued his impressive play on the par 72, 6,998-yard course at Dataw. He now has five straight rounds under par over the last two years at the site of the CAA Championships and sits in third place entering the final round. Nicholas was the only Dragon to shoot under par on the day. Brockton English, who shot two-under on Sunday, fired a 74, as did Tafadzwa Nyumukondiwa. English is tied for sixth place overall, while both Nyumukondiwa and Griffin Mitchell are tied for 19th place overall after 36 holes. Mitchell and Liam Hart each recorded four-over-par 76 on the afternoon.
UNCW leads the field at 14-under par. The Seahawks had the best round of the day as a team at 273 (-15). The Dragons, at two-over par through two rounds are 16 shots behind the leader. Drexel is one stroke ahead of the College of Charleston and two strokes better than Elon.
The final round of the 2023 CAA Championships begins at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
