Varsity 8+ Claims Top Spot at Occoquan Invitational

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. - The No. 15 Drexel men's rowing team continued to serve notice to the collegiate rowing community as the Dragons took the top spot in the Varsity 8+ against strong competition at the Occoquan Invitational at Sandy Run Regional Park on Sunday.
Rowing in Lois Krall III, the V8+ of Sam DeSilva (coxswain), Kosta Petkovic (stroke), Nikola Loncar, Vuk Mladenovic, Damian Lis, Josh Diggons, Andrew Manns, Jack Anderson and Andrei Malis (bow) bested three ranked teams, topping No. 17 Navy, No. 21 Holy Cross and No. 22 Georgetown with a time of 5:40.99.
The 2V8+ came down to the final couple of strokes, but the crew of Billy Ernst (coxswain), John Karen (stroke), Roman Smigiel, Alex Manolarakis, Nemanja Sajatovic, Jake Miller, Nick Foley, Lake Watson and Sam Valigorsky (bow) were edged by just 0.17 seconds in Lois Krall II, finishing with a 5:55.19 clocking.
Next up, Drexel travels to Cherry Hill, N.J. to compete at the Knecht Cup Regatta on Saturday, April 15.
