Dragons PIck Up Road Win at UAlbany, 77-70

ALBANY, N.Y. - Drexel scored the first nine points of the game and never trailed in a 77-70 road win at the University at Albany. Five players scored in double figures as the Dragons shot 61 percent from the floor in the game and improved to 7-4.
The Dragons had one of their better shooting nights of the season, sinking 61 percent of their shots. Drexel shot 67 percent in the second half and made 12 of its first 15 after halftime. However, the Great Danes stayed in the game and when Amar'e Marshall hit a 3-pointer with just under three minutes to go, UAlbany trailed by just five. The Great Danes got as close to three points after a Drexel turnover and steal, but the Dragons did what they had to from the line. They sank eight of 10 free throws in the final two minutes and came up with some big defensive plays, including a steal from Shane Blakeney as they beat UAlbany for the second straight season.
Kobe MaGee led a balanced offense with 17 points, 11 of those coming in the first half. Jason Drake added 14 and was 5-for-6 from the floor. Victor Panov added 12, while Blakeney and Yame Butler contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Kevon Vanderhorst made his Drexel debut after being sidelined with an injury for the first 10 games and scored six points.
Drexel held a big advantage on the glass most of the game and outrebounded the Great Danes by eight. Cole Hargrove led DU with eight caroms. The Dragons won despite 19 turnovers which led to 19 UAlbany points.
Drexel held a comfortable lead for the entire first half and took a 37-23 lead to intermission. The Dragons shot 57 percent from the floor, making 13 of their 23 shots. Defensively, Drexel had a solid first 20 minutes, forcing seven turnovers and holding the Great Danes to just one 3-pointer. UAlbany finished the game just 2-for-19 from behind the arc.
Marshall led UAlbany with 19 points. DeMarr Langford, Jr. scored 14 points.
The Dragons continue a busy week with a road game at Howard on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Drexel will play its final game before the semester break next Saturday at noon against Penn State at Wells Fargo Center.
