PHILADELPHIA - The NCAA announced the pre-allocations for qualifying for the NCAA Division l Wrestling National Championships on Thursday. The EIWA was awarded 53 automatic bids, with the 285-pound weight classes receiving the highest bids of the conference with eight. The EIWA is third in the country with its 53 bids, behind the BIG10 (85) and the BIG12 (57).
Each conference's qualifying tournament was awarded pre-allocations to the national tournament based on regular season matches through February 26. The pre-allocations are determined using a sliding scale of a .700 winning percentage, top 30 coaches' rank, and top 30 ratings percentage index (RPI) with a maximum of 29 pre-allocations per weight class.
There will also be 47 at-large bids available. After all the conference tournaments have concluded, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will meet in person to select the remaining at-large qualifiers, which will be announced on March 12, while brackets and seeding will be announced on NCAA.com at 8 p.m. on March 13. All weight classes will consist of 33 wrestlers.
Additionally, the EIWA released its February rankings and the NCAA announced the last coaches poll and RPI rankings before the postseason.
