PHILADELPHIA – Drexel had eight teams achieve a perfect score on the 2023-24 Academic Progress Rate (APR), which was announced today. It is the second consecutive year that eight teams recorded perfect scores.
Six of Drexel's women's teams earned a score of 1000. Those included the basketball, lacrosse, softball, soccer, swimming and diving, and tennis teams. On the men's side, the basketball and golf teams were each at 1000.
The APR multi-year rate averages the scores from the previous four years. The women's basketball team is one of 60 programs nationally in the sport with a perfect score. The golf team is one of 131, while the women's tennis team is one of 166 across the nation with a perfect multi-year rate.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked. The Academic Performance Program has established an essential framework for academic excellence. The program provides measurable goals to ensure schools are fulfilling their commitment of equipping student-athletes with the tools and resources necessary to achieve academic success.
