Caleb Taylor Shoots Six-Under-Par 64; Drexel Leads After Opening Round of J.T. Poston Invitational

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. – Caleb Taylor shot a 6-under-par 64 on Day one of the J.T. Poston Invitational to help Drexel finish the opening round in first place. Drexel finished day one with a two-stroke lead over Southern Mississippi and tournament hosts, Western Carolina.

Taylor shares the lead in the field of 90 players with Tyler Jones of Western Carolina. The senior fired a five-under-par 31 on the back nine, helping him finish tied for sixth in program history for the lowest round. Jake Haberstumpf and Thomas Young each finished the round tied for 14^th after checking in with a one-under-par.

After Drexel, Southern Mississippi and Western Carolina, Kennesaw State and Virginia Tech sit in fourth place, finishing the first round at three-under-par. The rest of the 15-team field shot over par.

Drexel returns to the par 70, 6,720-yard Waynesville Inn and Golf Club this year after playing at the course for the first time in the 2024 J.T. Poston Invitational. The Dragons are set to tee off on day two of the invitational at 9 a.m. on Monday morning.
