Lima and Guzman Advance to Doubles Semifinals at Fordham Invitational

NEW YORK – The Drexel men's tennis team finished a strong opening day at the Fordham Invitational Saturday afternoon in the Bronx.
In doubles play, Tiago Lima and Josue Guzman won against Fordham's Cristian Ramos and NJIT's Juan Diego Argenal due to injury. In the second round against the number one seeded duo of Fordham's Mateusz Gradzki and Victor Kimpel, Lima and Guzman pulled off the upset, winning 6-4 to advance to the semifinals.
In singles play, Guzman defeated Long Island University's Leo Lazarides, 7(7)-6(3), 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Guzman fell to Gradzki, 6-1, 7-5. The fourth-seeded Lima beat Iona's Mark Taviloglu, 7(9)-6(7), 6-0. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Long Island University's Jonathan Kurian, 7(7)-6(4), 6(5)-7(7), [10]-[8]. Lima will compete in the singles semifinals tomorrow against NJIT's Severin Risan.
The Dragons return to the court tomorrow to continue the Fordham Invitational.
