Dragons Fall in Overtime to St. Bonaventure in First Round of WNIT, 69-67

OLEAN, N.Y. – Julia Garcia Roig scored a career-high 14 points and tallied 10 assists for the juniors first double-double of her career in Drexel's 69-67 overtime defeat against St. Bonaventure in the first round of the 2026 WNIT.
BY THE NUMBERS
Garcia Roig finished with seven field goals, which is a career high. The junior also set new career marks in points, and assists. The Barcelona native also tied a career-high four rebounds.
Drexel scored 40 points in the paint on Thursday night, outscoring St. Bonaventure by 20 in the category. Drexel only made its way to the charity stripe four times.
Laine McGurk led Drexel in scoring, tallying 19 points on seven field goals. The junior finished with five treys.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Drexel jumped out to a 13-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Backed by a pair of four-point performances by Garcia Roig and Mariah Watkins, Drexel shot 6-for-14 in the first quarter and held the Bonnies to just 4-for-18.
Drexel began the second quarter on a, 7-3 run to extend its lead to eight in the first 2:15 of the quarter. The Bonnies called their first timeout with 7:45 remaining in the quarter. St. Bonaventure finished the quarter scoring 13 more points and held Drexel to 16 on the quarter to go into the locker rooms with Drexel in the lead, 29-25.
The Dragons outscored St. Bonaventure in the third frame, 21-18 to extend their lead to eight heading into the final frame. Drexel used a 60% clip to help extend its lead and held the Bonnies to just 5-for-13. However, St. Bonaventure used seven chances at the charity stripe to help with its quarter production.
St. Bonaventure scored 17 points in the fourth quarter and held Drexel to just nine. The Dragons only scored four field goals, three from Garcia Roig. The Bonnies used a bucket with 2:22 remaining in the quarter to tie the game at 59 apiece. Both teams were unable to score a bucket to close out the frame.
In overtime, the game swung in both directions twice before St. Bonaventure took the lead with less than 10 seconds remaining to take a two-point lead. Drexel had the final possession with nine seconds remaining, but an Amaris Baker three-point shot bounced off the front iron to end the game.

The Dragons finish the season with a 21-11 record. It is the first time the Dragons won 20 games since the 2022-23 season. It is also the 12th straight season that Drexel has finished above .500.
