Men's Basketball Falls to Monmouth in the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals, 65-57

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Drexel men's basketball team fell to the Monmouth Hawks in the quarterfinals of the CAA Tournament on Sunday, 65-57, at the CareFirst Arena. Kevon Vanderhorst led the team with 15 points. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker's Local 98 is once again the presenting sponsor of Drexel Men's Basketball.

Vanderhorst also led the team in steals with three.
Shane Blakeney had 11 points while rebounding the ball nine times, blocking a shot and stealing one.
Garfield Turner and Victor Panov both had 10 points and six rebounds.
Drexel outrebounded Monmouth 36-35.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Threes from Blakeney, Panov and Vanderhorst gave the Dragons a 9-2 lead early. The Hawks trimmed the lead to three before an and-one from Blakeney gave Drexel a 12-6 lead with 15:31 in the half. A three from Panov kicked off a 12-5 run for Drexel, which was capped off by a Turner jump shot at 10:57 to put Drexel ahead by 10. The teams went back and forth, with Drexel extending their lead to 11 off an Eli Beard three at 8:55. Monmouth took the lead with a 14-2 run before a Blakeney jump shot gave Drexel a 33-32 lead at the half.
The Dragons shot 54.5% from three in the first half while outrebounding the Hawks 19-16.
Monmouth started the half on an 8-3 run. Back-to-back baskets and a free throw from Turner put Drexel ahead 41-40 with 14:25 to play. The Hawks tied things back up before a Beard three started a 7-2 Drexel run to give the Dragons a 48-43 lead with 10:31 to play. Monmouth responded with a 13-1 run, leading 56-49 with 2:37 remaining. Free throws from Vanderhorst made it a five point game but a 9-6 Monmouth run sealed the win for the Hawks.
In the second half Drexel shot 55% from three and made the most of their second chance opportunities, outscoring Monmouth 8-3 in second chance points.
