Women’s Rowing Finishes Third at CAA Championships

CHERRY HILL, N.J. — The Drexel women's rowing season came to an end Saturday morning at the CAA Championships, as the Dragons placed third overall in the team standings. The Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ took home bronze medals as the 2nd Varsity 8+ and 3rd Varsity 8+ both crossed the line in fourth.
Northeastern were the overall champions for the 12th consecutive season with 42 points, followed by UConn with 36 points, while Drexel finished with 28. Additionally, Sabrina Batdorf, Ariana Townsend and Hannah Walseth were all named to the All-CAA team.
The Varsity 4+ captured the first podium finish for the Dragons on the day. Rowing in Laura Ludwick White, Katie O'Donnell (Coxswain), Kari Prosperi (Stroke), Hazel Danko, Paige Hartshorn and River Trotter (Bow) came home with a time of 7:24.029. The Huskies made a late charge to claim second place by 0.724 over the Dragons. The Huskies took gold in the event, posting a CAA record time of 7:20.309.
In the final event of the morning, the Varsity 8+ finished third, marking the boat's 13th consecutive top-three finish at the CAA Championships. Browning in 1990 V8+, Lauren Shaw (Coxswain), Ariana Townsend (Stroke), Zoe Page, Jaelyn Walsh, Hannah Walseth, Sabrina Batdorf, Alyssa Bucci, Michaela Werber and Lily Gramlich (Bow) finished the course at 6:38.183.
The Dragons rallied from a slow start and overtook Villanova for third by a seat at the 1000-meter mark. Drexel then made a late push for second, but the Huskies were able to hold on to secure the silver medal.
