Cabrejos Wins Men’s Individual South American Under-23 Squash Championship

LIMA, PERU – Thiago Cabrejos of the Drexel men's squash team won the Men's Individual South American Under-23 Squash Championship – Lima 2026 on Wednesday, in Peru.
Cabrejos, the sophomore from Lima, defeated Andre Almeida of Brazil 11-4, 11-5 and 11-7 in the round of 16.
The quarterfinals saw Cabrejos defeat Argentina's Santiago Portabales 11-7, 11-6 and 11-1
In the semifinals, Murilo Penteado of Brazil won the first game 7-11 before Cabrejos won the next three 17-15, 11-5 and 11-7 to advance with a 3-1 win.
The finals, against Javier Romo from Ecuador, was a close, back-and-forth match. Romo won the first game, 9-11, before a 12-10 win by Cabrejos tied things up. Romo won the next game 11-7 before Cabrejos won back-to-back games, 11-5 and 11-8 respectively, to secure the title.
For Drexel this past season, Cabrejos went 10-4, primarily in the seventh position.
