Moukarzel Wins Lebanese Cup Men's Singles Championship

BISHMIZZINE, LEBANON – Anthony Moukarzel of the Drexel men's tennis team won the Lebanese Cup after defeating Giovani Samaha 6-2, 6-2 at the Koura Tennis Club on Saturday, August 8. Throughout the singles tournament, Moukarzel won every set he played.
"Winning the Lebanon Cup is a great achievement for me." Moukarzel said. "Playing and winning in my home country means so much, especially after putting in continuous hard work alongside my teammates and coaches at Drexel that push me to become better every day. It is an amazing feeling to see all that daily effort pay off."
In the opening round, Moukarzel won by retirement, 6-0, 5-1, over Keyrouz Charbel. The round of 16 saw him defeat third-ranked Gabriel Ghostine 6-1 in the first set before sealing the win with a 7-6 victory. Moukarzel won the quarterfinal match against sixth-ranked Elias Abou Rahal 6-1, 6-1. In the semifinals, he defeated second-ranked Tarek Chaaby 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, Moukarzel and Partner Armand Garabedian advanced to the semifinals before falling to the eventual champions 6-4, 2-6, 14-12.
