Shannon Grogan Earns First Victory as Head Coach; Dragons Blank Holy Family, 5-0

PHILADELPHIA — Liv Brocious and Makenzie McCready each scored twice as Drexel blanked Holy Family, 5-0, on Friday afternoon. With the victory, Shannon Grogan earned her first career win as a head coach. This marks the widest margin of victory for DU since the season finale of the 2023 season against Hampton. The Dragons totaled 13 points as a team combined.
Drexel opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Nia Chinapoo played the ball into the box to Makenzie McCready, who fired a shot through the goalkeeper's legs and into the back of the net for her first of the season.
Liv Brocious scored her first goal of the contest in the 20th minute. Chinapoo recorded her second assist of the day, heading the ball across to Brocious, who finished with a header of her own.
The Dragons added another goal in the 28th minute before halftime, as Annie Clapp struck from the edge of the box. Jess Castorina fought through a defender to play the ball to Clapp, who curled a left-footed shot into the left side of the net.
Brocious opened the second half with her third goal of the season in the 53rd minute. McCready beat her defender near the goal line and played the ball to Brocious, who finished the one-timer into the top-left corner. Brocious now has six points in opening two games of the campaign, matching her season total from a season ago.
Drexel closed things out with another goal in the 76th minute. Julia Dunaway dished the ball from the left side, as McCready played the ball off a defender and into the net for her first career multi-goal game.
The Dragons head to South Orange, N.J., on Sunday to face Seton Hall. The contest, originally scheduled for 6 p.m., will now kick off at 4 p.m.
