Gabriela Marginean of women's basketball completed a historic career on the hardwood at Drexel and became the first Dragon to play in the WNBA. During her time on campus, the Romania native was honored for both her tremendous playing ability and her leadership on the court and in the community. Marginean was a four-time All-CAA selection, the 2009 CAA Player of the Year and a 2010 recipient of the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award. She was twice named the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Academic All-Area Women’s Basketball Performer of the Year and this season was named to the CAA’s All-Academic Team. On the court, Marginean left an indelible mark on women’s basketball at Drexel and in Philadelphia. Her 2,581 career points is more than any player in the history of the CAA and Philadelphia women’s basketball. She led Drexel to its first CAA Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009 and its first Postseason WNIT berth this past season. Marginean graduated with degrees from Drexel in psychology and sport management. During her last weekend, she made her WNBA debut playing for the Minnesota Lynx.
