Shafer is one of the most prolific scorers in Drexel lacrosse history. Shafer concluded his career with 119 career goals, the sixth-highest total in school history. He also had 161 points, which is 11th all-time at Drexel. Shafer scored 20 or more goals in each of his four seasons. As a senior, he finished second in the CAA and 18th in the nation in goals per game and led all players in goals during CAA games. Shafer was a First Team All-CAA selection as a senior after scoring 34 goals. He was a Second Team All-CAA pick after both his sophomore and junior years. As a freshman, he was named to the All-CAA Rookie Team after he scored 35 goals, recorded 18 assists and set the school freshman record with 53 points. That season, he had one of the biggest goals in school history when he scored the game-winning goal, his fifth of the game, in the third overtime of the CAA Championship against Hofstra. That goal gave Drexel its first CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
