The Drexel field hockey team announced the addition of Taylor Mason to their 2023 coaching staff on Tuesday morning. Mason, a previous student-athlete, will now take on the role of the program's staff assistant.
"It is with great excitement that we welcome Taylor to our Field Hockey Staff. Her commitment to excellence, positive energy in addition to strong teaching skills will make for an easy transition from athlete to coach." said field hockey's head coach Denise Zelenak.
Mason joined the Dragons last fall as a graduate transfer from the University of Maryland. As a Terrapin, she started in 23 contests and earned 20 points. In her senior season, the midfielder collected Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 26 after an assist that defeated No. 2 Michigan. In the classroom, Mason garnered All-Big Ten Academic honors in 2019 and 2021.
As a graduate student, the Dragon started all 20 contests and led the team with eight assists. The defender was honored as CAA Player of the Week on Sept. 18 after finding the game-winning goal against Penn for Drexel's first victory against the Quakers since 2010. The Doylestown, Md. native was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team, All-CAA First Team, CAA All-Tournament Team, All-CAA First Team, and CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
