Debra Bateman is in her second year as an assistant coach for Drexel’s men’s and women’s rowing teams.
In her undergraduate years at Saint Joseph’s University, Bateman was a three-year co-captain of the Hawks’ women’s rowing team. She raced in the varsity eight boats that won the Dad Vail Regatta, competed overseas in the Henley Women’s Regatta, won the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and placed first at the San Diego Crew Classic. In 2012, Bateman joined the coaching staff at St. Joe’s for the 2012-13 season.
Now as a graduate student in Drexel’s College of Nursing and Health Professions, Bateman is studying in human nutrition, following the didactic program in dietetics track to become a registered dietitian.
In addition to academics and athletics, Bateman interns for Drexel’s Center for Integrated Nutrition & Performance. She is also co-authoring a Nutrition Chapter for a Sports Medicine textbook with a Drexel faculty member. Bateman’s knowledge has contributed to the Drexel Crew’s ongoing appreciation and application of nutrition as a means of promoting performance, health and quality of life.
