Sam Lane is entering his third season as a member of the Drexel men's soccer coaching staff, his second as a full-time coach.
Prior to working at Drexel as a volunteer assistant coach in 2017, Lane spent two seasons at Sewanee the University of the South as an assistant coach. During that time, Lane helped the Tigers to their first-ever berth in the Southern Athletic Association championship game in 20155. He mentored five All-SAA performers and 20 SAA All-Academic selections during his two years at Sewanee. The team finished with the highest GPA of all the male teams at the school both years he worked in Tennessee. He took on significant responsibilities recruiting, scouting, training, social media and video analysis.
Prior to his coaching career, Lane was a standout player at Franklin & Marshall College. During his time at F&M, he helped the men's soccer program to a 55-15-5 record. Over hs four years, he played a part in the team's first-ever Centennial Conference title in 2013, a season which also saw the Diplomats reach the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Diplomats also reached the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament the following season. A two-time All-Centennial Conference selection including a First Team selection as a senior, Lane finished his career with 18 goals and 16 assists.
Lane is a native of Philadelphia.
