Corlis Gross is in her fourth season as an assistant coach in 2020-21 after joining the Drexel Rowing staff in the summer of 2017.
In her first two seasons with the Dragons, Gross helped guide the women’s team to two team point titles at the George Washington Invitational, key victories at the Kelly Cup, a Dad Vail Regatta overall title, a women’s points title at the Dad Vail Regatta and two second-place finishes overall at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. Working primarily with the fours, Gross has helped coach the women’s varsity four to gold medals at the Murphy Cup, Kerr Cup and Kelly Cup. The four earned the bronze medal at Eastern Sprints as well as the Dad Vail Regatta during her time. At the 2018 CAA Championships, the varsity four won the program’s first ever gold medal at the conference championships for a NCAA qualifying crew. The varsity 4 again won gold at the 2019 CAA Championships.
Prior to joining Drexel, Gross coached the novice women for Purdue University for two seasons beginning in 2015. There the novice four won the gold medal at the Dad Vail Regatta in 2017. At Purdue she also earned her Master’s degree in Health and Kinesiology. Before arriving at Purdue, Gross had four previous years of coaching experience at the club level on the East Coast.
Gross is an accomplished rower who competed for Brown University where she was a two-time national champion and captained the team her senior year. Over the course of her career in which she was a four-time NCAA qualifier, Gross earned first-place finishes with the junior varsity eight at the NCAA Championships in 2008 and 2010 as well as first-place team finishes at NCAAs in 2007 and 2008. In 2010 as a senior, she earned CRCA Second Team All-Region honors. Following the conclusion of her undergraduate career, Gross won a gold medals at the Head of Charles Regatta in the alumnae eight in 2011, the club single in 2015, and the masters single in 2019.
