John Galonis

Athletic Video Graduate Student

John Galonis serves as a Live Broadcast and Video Production Graduate Assistant for Drexel Athletics. A specialist in video engineering, Galonis manages and assists in the technical complexities of the production room to ensure the professional execution of live broadcasts across all of Drexel Athletics.

Galonis is a pioneer in integrating emerging virtual production technology into traditional sports media, having spearheaded the only live virtual production broadcast in collegiate athletics. He recently wrapped the second season of a student-run live virtual production basketball halftime show and continues to elevate the department's visual identity through the creation of 3D motion graphics and custom broadcast opens. His work in this space has earned him a Silver Telly Award for excellence in live virtual production as well as a Mid-Atlantic College Emmy® for his camera work and editing on high-profile sports segments that air on regional NBC Sports Philadelphia broadcasts.

Beyond his work at Drexel, Galonis has extensive experience within the Philadelphia area. He has contributed to live broadcasts for several regional institutions, including the Penn La Salle, and Delaware. Additionally, he has supported various Philadelphia-area high school broadcasts and served as a photographer for the 2023 NCAA Lacrosse Championship.

Galonis earned his Bachelor of Science in Digital Media and Virtual Production from Drexel University in 2025. During his undergraduate career, he completed minors in Animation, Film, and Virtual Reality and Immersive Media. Currently pursuing his MBA at Drexel, Galonis was awarded a Graduate Scholarship on behalf of Drexel Athletics to continue his work advancing the visual image of Drexel Athletics broadcasts.
