Meghan Bishop, MD

- Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr. Bishop is a fellowship-trained, board certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports related injuries of the knee, shoulder and elbow. After graduating top of her class at George Washington University Medical School, she completed her residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. She then completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. During her fellowship, Dr. Bishop served as one of the team physicians for the New York Knicks and Iona College. She has served as head team physician of the New York Empire American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) Team and is the Chair of the AUDL Research Committee. Additionally, she is the orthopaedic medical director for the Philadelphia Marathon and provides medical coverage for the elite athletes at the New York City Marathon.
Her clinical interests include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, multi-ligament knee injuries, knee meniscus tears, patellofemoral instability and pain, cartilage restoration procedures, shoulder instability and labral tears, as well as rotator cuff repair. She has a special interest in sports-related injuries of the female athlete.
Dr. Bishop remains active in research with over 40 peer reviewed publications and numerous book chapters. Her focus includes the female athlete, patellofemoral instability, and sports medicine outcomes based studies. She is active in orthopaedic societies and serves as Chair of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) Emerging Leaders Task Force. Furthermore, she is a member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Sports Medicine (AJSM) and Video Journal of Sports Medicine (VJSM).
Dr. Bishop is a former Division I collegiate track and field athlete and continues to be an avid runner. She is a 2020 US Olympic Marathon Trials competitor and has competed and placed in multiple other marathons throughout the country. Her athletic history has given her a personal understanding of the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
