At 197 pounds, McLaughlin wrestled three times in the opening weekend for the Dragons. The Woodbridge, N.J. native went 3-0 with two wins by fall and one technical fall. To begin the season on Friday night, McLaughlin pinned Sacred Heart's Nick Fierro in the third period to start the campaign on a high note. On Saturday afternoon, he turned in a first-period win by fall for his second pin of the weekend, defeating LIU's T.J. Franden in 41 seconds as helped DU to a 35-9 team win over the Sharks. He closed out the weekend with an 18-3 technical fall victory over Bloomsburg in 4:36 later that afternoon.
