
Women's Varsity Eight Defends Titles at Frostbite and Bill Braxton Regattas

Philadelphia - The Drexel women's varsity eight boat finished its fall season in style as the Dragons top boat won the Frostbite Regatta on Saturday before taking first place at the Bill Braxton Regatta for the second straight season. The novice eight boat took second among six teams in its final at the Frostbite Regatta, finishing only behind Lehigh, before placing first in a four-boat race on Sunday. Drexel's junior varsity eight crossed the finish line third of six teams on Saturday before finishing its fall season with a victory in the Bill Braxton Regatta against three other boats.
Drexel's varsity eight clocked a 7:03.43 on Saturday, almost eight seconds faster than second-place Lafayette. The Dragons also bested top boats from Saint Joseph's, Philadelphia University, Temple and Penn State. The boat completed the weekend sweep with a time of 5:15.58, better than 18 seconds faster than Saint Mary's College.
The Dragons' novice eight boat finished at 8:01.62 to take second place on Saturday ahead of Saint Joseph's, Lafayette, Temple and Penn State. At the Bill Braxton Regatta, the boat nabbed first place with a time of 6:05.05, more than 10 seconds better than second-place Philadelphia University.
In junior varsity action, Drexel's time of 7:33.18 in the Frostbite Regatta was good for third place behind Saint Joseph's and Temple, but was better than finishers from Lehigh, Lafayette and Penn State. In Sunday's race, the Dragons finished with a time of 5:42.91 for the victory ahead of a pair of boats from Temple and an entry from Penn State.
