Richmond, Va. - Drexel women's basketball will play its first road game of the season when the Dragons play the Richmond Spiders (2-0) at 7:00 p.m. tonight at the Robins Center in Richmond, Va. Drexel is looking for its second straight win after a convincing 56-42 victory over Penn last Sunday at the DAC. The Dragons are also playing to avenge a loss to Richmond at home last year when the team's tip it up in Virginia tonight. Senior forward Gabriela Marginean, the reigning CAA Player of the Week, is three points shy of setting Drexel's all-time scoring record. The mark of 1,900 career points is currently held by Michelle Maslowski ('02).
The Dragons received a balanced scoring attack against Penn in a game that saw every healthy body take the floor for the team. Kamile Nacickaite put in 19 points, including five three-pointers, to set a new career high. Marginean recorded her 22nd career double-double with 17 points and 11 boards, she also dished out a career-high-tying four assists.
The Spiders come into this evenings game with a 2-0 mark after a pair of 20-plus point victories over Western Carolina and George Mason. Junior guard Brittani Shells has remained in the form that earned her First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors last year while leading the Spiders to the tournament final.
Richmond came back from an eight-point deficit to defeat Drexel 73-60 in Philadelphia last season. The Spiders shot a blistering 60 percent from the floor in the second half and Shells scored 21 of her 30 points in the second period to bring her team from behind for the win. Marginean scored 29 points in the game for Drexel.
Tonight's game can be heard live on www.drexeldragons.com with Ari Bluestein and Alex Falk calling the action. The Denise Dillon Pregame Show will air 30 minutes prior to tip-off.
