Dragons Defeat East Stroudsburg, Fall to Buffalo in Duals

Drexel wrestling split a pair of duals as the Dragons dropped a 27-15 decision to Buffalo before defeating East Stroudsburg, 33-6. Drexel's Steve Mytych earned a 6-4 victory over 20th-ranked Kevin Smith of Buffalo while earning a technical fall over East Stroudsburg's Andrew Arnold. Shane Fenningham and Kyle Frey also won two matches. After today's action, Drexel's record in dual meets this season stands at 3-3.
Buffalo jumped to a 6-0 lead as Danny Bishop pinned Drexel's Josh Yurasits with just 16 seconds remaining in the match. Mytych followed with his win over Smith to halve the Bulls' lead to 6-3. The Dragons tied the dual with a win at 141 pounds as Fenningham earned a tough 3-2 decision over Andrew Schutt. Eighteenth-ranked Desmond Green broke the tie as he earned a major decision win over Drexel's Brett McCurdy, 16-6. Buffalo bumped its lead up with a wins at 157, 165 and 174 pounds before Wieller stopped the run with a 5-2 decision over Josh Peters at 184 pounds. Buffalo took the 197-pound match by major decision before Frey capped the dual with a win by fall in the second period over Jedd Mason.
In the Dragons' second match of the day, Drexel took eight of the 10 bouts to cruise to a 33-6 victory over East Stroudsburg. Yurasits opened with a 16-5 major decision win before Mytych's five-point technical fall victory over Arnold. Fenningham picked up his second win of the day with a major decision triumph over T.J. Van Horn, 9-1. McCurdy also earned four points for the Dragons as he pulled out a 12-3 major decision win over Dunn. Aungst battled to a 5-3 decision over Evan Baer in the 157-pound match to grow the Dragons' lead to 20-0. The Warriors picked up their first win of the dual at 165 pounds, but Woodall pinned Ken Monarque just before the first-period whistle to give the clinch the team victoryj. After Shane Mallory of East Stroudsburg won at 184 pounds, Callender and Frey closed the dual with wins, with Frey's coming by major decision.
