Lewisburg, Pa. - The Dragons continued their trend of splitting dual matches as Drexel defeated Princeton, 32-9, before falling to host Bucknell, 35-6, in non-conference action. Redshirt freshman Joe Booth and junior Kyle Frey each earned two victories on the day as the Dragons moved to 4-4 on the season.
Drexel won eight of the nine matches contested on the mat against Princeton. The dual opened with a forfeit victory for the Tigers at 125 pounds that put the Dragons in an early 6-0 hole. Senior Steve Mytych drew the Dragons nearly level with Princeton after earning a technical fall over Garrett Frey in the third period. Shane Fenningham followed with a 6-1 decision at 141 pounds that gave Drexel a lead it would not relinquish. Brett McCurdy tacked on four more points after posting a 10-1 victory at 149 pounds while Joe Booth also earned four points with his major decision win at 157 pounds.
Princeton prevailed in the 165 pound match but the Dragons reeled off victories in the final four matches. Dave Woodall scored a first-period pin in his match against Travis Erdman at 174 pounds. Justin Wieller nearly picked up a major decision victory but ran out of time in his 9-2 win over Kurt Brendel. At 197 pounds, Jack Callendar defeated Charles Fox, 10-4, before Frey capped the dual with a 16-3 major decision win over Bobby Grogan.
Against the Bison, Drexel forfeited the 125-pound bout to open the dual. The match that followed was one of the most anticipated of the day as Mytych took on 19th-ranked David Marble at 133 pounds. In a tightly contested contest, Marble prevailed, 4-3, to stake Bucknell to a 9-0 advantage. The Bison followed with a win by fall at 141 pounds before McCurdy gave eighth-ranked Kevin LeValley all he could handle before succumbing in a 5-3 defeat.
