Men's Basketball Visits Towson on Wednesday Night

The Drexel men's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday night with a conference match-up at Towson University. The Dragons and Tigers tip-off at 7 p.m. in a game that can be heard live on WFIL AM from the Towson Center.
Drexel's two-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday, when William & Mary came into the DAC and won, 73-48. The Dragons struggled all game from the field and shot a season-low 24 percent from the field. Drexel had just one field goal for a stretch of more than 17 minutes from the 12 minute mark in the first half into the second half. Gerald Colds led the Dragons with 15 points. He was 11-for-16 from the line and made eight in a row at one point. Jamie Harris, Drexel's leading scorer, finished with 12 points but made only five of his career-high 22 attempts from the floor. Drexel grabbed 18 offensive board, but managed only two second chance points. William & Mary's offense clicked in the second half as the Tribe shot a sizzling 65 percent over the final 20 minutes. The Tribe also made all but one of their 14 free throw attempts in the half. Quinn McDowell led William & Mary with 20 points.
Harris has had five games with at least 20 points and had a career-high 32 points at Georgia State. He averages 15.3 points per game, while Colds is also in double figures with 10.3 ppg.
Towson will look to snap a six-game losing streak this evening. The Tigers are 0-5 in conference play after suffering a three-point loss at James Madison on Saturday, 69-66. The Dukes, who led by as many as 14 point, won the game on a three-pointer by Ben Louis with just 1.5 seconds left in the game. Robert Nwankwo led the Tigers with 15 points and 10 rebounds, his fifth double-double of the year. Jarrel Smith came off then bench and added 13 points. Calvin Lee leads a trio of Tigers in double figures scoring with 12.4 points. Josh Thornton, one of the top three-point shooters in the league, is second on the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game. Thornton has made 43 treys and is shooting .443 from behind the arc. Nwankwo chips in with 11.8 points per game. He is leading the CAA in rebounding (10.3), field-goal percentage (.610) and blocks (3.8). Brian Morris has 68 assists for the Tigers, who are 3-5 at the Towson Center in 2009-10. As a team, Towson is second in the CAA in three-pointers per game at 7.1

Hawthorne, who scored 14 straight points for the Dragons early in the second half, finished the game with 23 points and Rodgers added 20 points, and eight rebounds. Towson stunned Drexel, 73-62, just a few weeks later in the opening round of the CAA Tournament. The Tigers opened the game with a 15-0 run and led by as many as 26 points in the first half. Towson shot 50 percent in the first half, while Drexel made just four of its 23 field-goal attempts in the first 20 minutes. Hairston led the Tigers with 23 points.
