Fairfax, Va. - Steve Mytych won both of his matches at the Colonial Athletic Association Duals as he broke Ryan Hluschak's record of 121 career wins at Drexel. The Dragons dropped both duals as Binghamton defeated Drexel, 25-15, before Old Dominion pulled out a 32-10 triumph. Along with Mytych, Joe Booth and Kyle Frey also won both of their matches at the George Mason hosted event.
After Binghamton won the opening bout at 125 pounds by technical fall, Mytych claimed his milestone victory in style as he pinned Tyler Malmberg in 3:41 for his 122nd career victory. The win gave the Dragons a brief 6-5 lead. The Bearcats responded with wins by decision at 141 and 149 pounds before Booth won a 10-7 decision over Justin Lister to cut the Binghamton lead to 11-9. Binghamton rebounded with a major decision win at 165 pounds before Dave Woodall earned a hard-fought 3-1 triumph over Anthony Esposito to make the score 15-12 in favor of Binghamton. A win by fall at 184 pounds gave the Bearcats a big boost and a 21-12 advantage with just two matches remaining. A win by major decision by Nate Schiedel at 197 pounds clinched the dual for Binghamton. Frey closed the match with a 5-3 victory over Corey Waite at heavyweight.
In the Dragons' second match of the day, Old Dominion opened with a win by fall at 125 pounds. Mytych followed with his second win with bonus points as he won by major decision over Justin LaValle, 11-3. The Monarchs took the 141 and 149 pound matches before Booth took the 157-pound match by a 5-4 decision over Joseph Sheridan. Old Dominion took the next four matches to earn the victory in the dual. Frey picked up the heavyweight bout, 8-2, over Grant Chapman to move to 3-0 in conference matches this season.
Drexel returns to action on January 23 as part of Homecoming Weekend as the Dragons welcome George Mason and Missouri to the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
