Philadelphia - After returning victorious from a pair of road games last week, the Drexel women's basketball team welcomes George Mason (8-8, 1-4) to the DAC for a 7:00 p.m. tip tonight. Led by CAA Player of the Week Gabriela Marginean, the Dragons (10-6, 4-1) defeated Hofstra and Delaware last week to move into a second-place tie with Old Dominion in the conference standings. The Patriots are coming off their first conference win of the season, 72-61, over Northeastern on Sunday.
The Dragons will be looking to continue their 15-game home winning streak in CAA games tonight. Drexel has won seven straight against the Patriots dating back to the 2004-05 season. George Mason's last win over Drexel was on March 3, 2005 in Fairfax, Va.
Marginean, who averaged 22 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last week, en route to earning her third CAA Player of the Week Award, takes a run of 17 straight free throws without a miss into tonight's game. The senior forward put together a 24-point, 11-rebound double-double at Hofstra last Thursday and followed it up with 20 points in a double-overtime win at Delaware on Sunday. Jasmina Rosseel returned to her top playing form in that game as well, putting in 20 points and knocking down a season-high five three pointers. Kamile Nacickaite led the Dragons with 13 rebounds, her personal best, and was one of four Dragons to reach double figures in scoring. Marisa Crane asserted herself from the point guard position in an excellent all-around performance. She scored a career-high 11 points while dishing out six assists, snaring four steals and grabbing five rebounds, not to mention knocking down two free throws in the final five seconds to seal the victory.
George Mason features a talented young cast this season, including rookie starting guards Amber Easter and Rahneeka Saunders. Easter led the Patriots with 19 points against Northeastern on Sunday. Veteran Brittany Poindexter is the team's top scorer, averaging better than 13 points per game. And 6-foot-2 transfer center Angelee LaTouche is the team's top rebounder and defensive presence in the post. The Patriots started the season going 7-4 in non-conference play following a season in which they went 4-26 overall and 2-16 in conference play under first-year Head Coach Jeri Porter.
Tonight's game can be heard live on WKDU 91.7 FM, Drexel's student-run radio station, with Pat Delsi and Kenny Tribbett calling the action. Tribbett, a senior on the men's basketball team who also hosts a weekly television talk show and is a regular DJ on WKDU in the off-season, is joining the women's basketball broadcast as an analyst for the first time this season. Fans can also follow the game via streaming video on Drexel Dragons All-Access or by following livestats by clicking here.
