Drexel Runs Winning Streak to Seven Games with 3-0 Blanking of William & Mary

Philadelphia - Drexel shut out William & Mary, 3-0, to remain atop the Colonial Athletic Association standings with a perfect 5-0 conference mark. The win was the Dragons' seventh straight and moved the team to 10-3 overall. Christina Mastropaolo scored a goal and added an assist while Ashley Santee and Jen Cairone scored the other Drexel goals. Elizabeth Frey made 12 saves for the Tribe who dropped to 3-10 on the season.
The Dragons got on the board when Amanda Fleischut corralled the ball on the right endline and fired a ball to the front of the cage. Santee deflected the ball into the back of the cage at 14:59 to give Drexel an early 1-0 lead. The score remained that way until well after halftime as the Dragons were finally able to post an insurance goal at 50:39 despite dominating the action for the majority of the game. Mastropaolo sent a pass from the left corner to Cairone who one-timed the ball past Frey. Mastropaolo added a goal of her own when she slammed a loose ball into the cage following a penalty corner.
The Dragons outshot William & Mary, 24-3, for the game and did not allow a shot in the second half. Jenna Phillips made two saves on the day in recording her third shutout of the season. Drexel dominated in the penalty corner category as well with 14 to the Tribe's two. Susan Ciufo and Kim Tunell tied for game-high honors with seven shots each.
Drexel will host Penn on Wednesday in a non-conference game at Buckley Field at 7:00 p.m.
