James Madison scored once in each half and shut out Drexel 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer Friday evening at the JMU Soccer Complex. JMU improved to 9-6-0 and 5-2-0 in the CAA, while Drexel fell to 5-9-1 overall and 1-5-1 in CAA games.
The Dukes took a season-high 34 shots to only eight shots by the Dragons, and JMU redshirt senior goalkeeper Diane Wszalek made two saves to get her school record-tying 21st career shutout.
The Dukes' first-half goal came from sophomore Katie Menzie in the 30th minute. Senior Cate Tisinger got the ball to Menzie, who dribbled toward the goal and hit a hard shot from the middle of the box from 12 yards out. The ball hit the left post and ricocheted across the goal into the right side of the net.
Tisinger netted JMU's second goal in the 71st minute. Junior Yolie Anderson-Golhor sent a pass ahead to Tisinger, who sprinted ahead of Drexel's defenders, got past senior goalkeeper Nicki Sinclair and hit a six-yard shot into an open net. Sinclair finished with 11 saves, which was a season-high.
Drexel is back in action Sunday at VCU.
