Crew to Compete in Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

Philadelphia, Pa. – Drexel men's and women's crew will take to the Schuylkill River for the second time this fall on Saturday, Oct. 30 as the Dragons participate in The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. Drexel Director of rowing Paul Savell will send 13 boats to the water to compete. Seven men's boats and six women's boats will race across 10 events through the regatta.
Drexel's men's pair opens the competition for the Dragons as they launch for an 8:00 a.m. race in event #1. The four-man shells follow with Drexel's men's freshman/novice four with coxswain Carolina Torres, stroke Ryan McSpedon, Matt Gibbons, Peter Rampulla and bow Ross Miller racing in event #2A, also at 8:00 a.m. The next event for Drexel, #4A at 9:20 a.m., will feature the varsity four “A” with coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Dylan Siegfried, Nicholas Buyse, Kevin Rorabaugh and bow Peter Eyrich as well as the varsity four “B” with coxswain Arlynn Kratz, Brennon Haydon, Scott Nordsiek, John Luciani and bow Adam Cordi. The final race for Drexel's fours will be event #4B at 9:40 a.m. The varsity four “A” with coxswain Caitlin Meehen, stroke Jillian Skovran, Chloe Swansen, Marin McKinnley and bow Brogan Piecara will race in the Sheller while the varsity four “B” with coxswain Mary Beth Geyer, stroke Amanda Dargay, Lillian Reed, Kathie Cheng and bow Victoria Bannister will race in the Byers shell.
The eights races will begin for Drexel with event #5A at 10:00 a.m. when the men's freshmen eight in the 1972 boat with coxswain Marc Smith, stroke Sebastian Ryan, Vanja Busic, John Pieper, Marcus DeMarici, Brent Basso, Steve Miner, Matt Ryan and bow Andrew Pope Starnes will take to the water. The women's freshmen eights follow in event #5B at 10:20 a.m. with the Anne Marie boat and coxswain Kerry Walsh, stroke Shannon O'Donnell, Colleen Delaney, Kayla Wroblesky, Sloane Spurlock, Emily Fluharty, Alyssa Leahy, Sarah Mackenzie and bow Elizabeth Daugherty as well as the Greipp boat and coxswain Dana Piccoli, stroke Caitlin Buser, Jackie Bender, Adrianna Moreno, Julia Duffy, Leigh Anne Lougherty, Emily Barth, Danielle Soghoian and bow Jennifer Everitt.
The varsity eight races start when Drexel launches its men's second varsity eight in the Greenwalt in event #7A at 11:20 a.m. with coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Liam O'Neill, Michael Golden, Martin Khait, Gregg Francis, Ernesto Del Valle, Greg Pierce, Michael Faust and bow Peter Schmidt. The women's second varsity eight races at 11:40 a.m. in event #7B when the John Daskalakis with coxswain Alexandra Paulin, stroke Natasha Martines, Brooke Wertan, Taylor Mondak, Elise Panacek, Collen Owens, Samantha Cowan, Asiya Mahumud and bow Brianna Simmers take to the water.
The final varsity events for the Dragons start at 2:20 p.m. with event #11A as the men's varsity eight in the Empacher and coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Kurt Linton, Lorenzo Albala, Aleksander Radovic, Kyle Fabel, Brian Timlin, William Masters, Anthony Fitipaldi and bow Jacob Sloan launch for the championship race. The final boat to compete for Drexel will be the Marlene Buckley III with coxswain Mary Catherine Khella, stroke Liz Bratton, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Emily Coyle, Juliana DeMarici, Alexa Antonioli, Casondra Clawson and bow Mollie Cusack in event #11C at 2:40 p.m.
