
Cairone's Hat Trick Helps Drexel to 6-0 Victory over Delaware, No. 1 Seed in CAA Championships

Philadelphia - Drexel senior Jen Cairone scored three goals as the Dragons defeated Delaware, 6-0, to clinch the No. 1 seed in the 2010 CAA Field Hockey Championships. With the win Drexel closed the regular season with a 14-4 overall record and finished 7-1 in CAA games for the third straight season. Fellow seniors Susan Ciufo and Kim Tunell also recorded goals after being honored prior to the game as part of Senior Day festivities.
After an even opening 20 minutes, Drexel finally broke through and dominated the rest of the way. Cairone opened the scoring at 22:17 after receiving a cross from the left post from Ciufo. Just 31 seconds later, Ciufo fired a shot from the middle that found the back of the cage after receiving a pass from Kristen Focht. After taking a 2-0 lead to halftime, Drexel continued its stellar play as the Dragons outshot Delaware 18-0 in the second half. Tunell scored her goal off of a penalty corner as she recorded her third goal in the last two games. Cairone scored Drexel's next two goals before the Dragons closed the game with an Amanda Fleischut goal that saw Emily Beamesderfer record her first career point as she fed Fleischut from just outside the circle.
Drexel will join Old Dominion, VCU and Northeastern in the 2010 CAA Championships to be held Nov. 6-7 at Drexel's Buckley Field. The Dragons will be looking for their first ever CAA Championship.
