Dragons to compete in Terrier Invitational this weekend
11/19/2010 2:08:49 AM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
The Drexel men's and women's swimming and diving team will compete this weekend at the Terrier Invitational, which is being held in Boston, Mass. The Dragons will face Boston University, UMass, UNH, Boston College, as well as CAA-opponent Northeastern in the meet, which will be held in BU's new aquatics complex.
Both teams are going into the invite as very competitive opponents. The men's team has a number of key competitors in seniors Jesse McGrath, Matthew Tannenbaum, and Armagan Yavuz. They are also expecting good performances out of sophomore Doga Celik, as well as freshmen Greg Oprendek and Alex Bagshaw.
The women also show strong promise for the weekend. Captain Jess Csakai looks to take the freestyle events while teammates Lauren Faykes, Jenna Seitz, Maria Coman, and Devina Tyagi should be highly competitive in their respective events.
Aside from the excitement of the upcoming Invitational, the Dragons were also recently recognized in the CSCAA Mid-Major Ranking Poll. The men's swimming and diving team was ranked 20th out of all the mid-major schools in the country. The women were also honored, receiving consideration for the second year in a row and ranking 46th on the poll.
The meet kicks off Friday morning with preliminary sessions and competition will continue through until Sunday night.
