Dragons Renew Battle of 33rd Street in 2010 DAC Opener Tonight

Philadelphia - Drexel women's basketball opens play at the Daskalakis Athletic Center for the 2010-11 season hosting the Penn Quakers tonight at 7:00 p.m. The 15th installment of the Battle of 33rd Street features a pair of 1-0 teams that both registered convincing victories in their season openers. Fans who cannot make it out to the DAC tonght can follow the game with live audio, video and stat tracker on Drexel Game Central. Live audio and video are also streamed on the drexeldragons.com mobile site and the Drexel Sports app now available for download.
Drexel exploded for an 86-55 win at La Salle on Tuesday, led by 26 points from Kamile Nacickaite, 15 from Hollie Mershon and 14 from Jasmina Rosseel. The Dragons led by as much as 24 points in the first half and held a 15-point margin at the break. Nacickaite scored 17 of her 26 points in the first half. The Dragons shot a sizzling 57.1 percent from the floor and made 13-of-14 from the charity stripe. Jasmina Rosseel made three three-pointers in the game, giving her 200 for her career at Drexel, only the second player ever to reach the mark.
Penn beat Bryant on Nov. 12, 70-59. Jess Knapp led the way with 14 points and 11 rebounds and Alyssa Baron contributed 20 points. Baron, a 5-foot-10 guard is in her first season with the Quakers and was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Penn is in its second season under Head Coach Mike McLaughlin.
Last meeting: Drexel beat Penn last season 56-42 on Nov. 15, 2009. Kamile Nacickaite led the Dragons with 19 points in her second career start. Gabriela Marginean added a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double. The Dragons shot just under 35 percent but outworked the Quakers on the boards 45-34. Drexel never trailed in the contest en route to its first win of the season.
All-Time Series: Drexel leads the all-time series against its 33rd street rival 10-4 and the Dragons have won three straight against Penn. The Quakers' last win over Drexel was on Dec. 21, 2006 at the Palestra.
