Philadelphia, Pa. – Chris Fouch scored a career-best 30 points and Samme Givens had his third double-double of the season as Drexel cruised to a 79-39 victory in the Dragons home opener at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons opened the game with a 17-1 run and held the Bearcats (1-4) without a field goal for the first eight minutes of the game.
The Dragons got on the board with a Gerald Colds three-pointer in the opening minute and never trailed in the game. After a Bearcat free throw, Drexel rattled off the next 14 points. Binghamton finally got a bucket when Mahamoud Jabbi sank a jumper, but the Dragons answered with a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach early. Drexel's lead increased to as many as 31 points in the first half as Binghamton was able to muster only five baskets the entire first half. Fouch had 11 points in the first half, but that was just the beginning for the sophomore from New York. He scored 14 straight points for the Dragons during a stretch of the second half, including 11 points in a span of two minutes. Fouch finished 8-for-11 from behind the three-point stripe, one three-pointer shy of the school record set by Mike Wisler during the 1993-94 season.
Givens had another solid game for the Dragons, notching his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Eight of his boards came on the offensive end and the junior went over the 500-career rebound mark in the contest. Freshman Frantz Massenat scored a career-high 10 points and was one of four Dragons with four assists. Dartaye Ruffin also scored 10 points, while Daryl McCoy snatched nine rebounds.
Drexel handed out 21 assists in the game and committed just six turnovers. The team made 11 of its 22 long-range attempts and finished the game shooting 52 percent. The Dragons were once again dominant on the boards, outrebounding the Bearcats, 39-20. Head Coach Bruiser Flint emptied his bench as all 12 players on the roster played at least two minutes. Goran Pantovic scored his first career bucket for the Dragons and local product Jake Lerner got in the scorebook with his first career rebound.
Robert Mansell led Binghamton with 12 points, while Chretien Lukusa added 10 points.
The Dragons are off until Wednesday night, when Saint Joseph's visits Daskalakis Athletic Center at 7 p.m. It will be the Hawks first visit to the DAC since 1992. Saint Joseph's leads the all-time series, 44-8, although the teams have split their last six meetings.
