Syracuse, N.Y. – Drexel's six game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night with a 93-65 loss to fifth-ranked Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. Gerald Colds had 16 points for the Dragons, who dropped to 8-2 on the season. Syracuse remained unbeaten at 13-0.
The Orange opened the second half by making its first eight shots and increased its lead to 20 points at 51-31. Drexel was unable to get the lead under 10 points the rest of the way. Overall, Syracuse shot 72 percent in the second half as the Drexel defense was unable to contain the Orange offense. The Dragons did manage to shoot 59 percent from the floor in the second half and make six three-pointers, but the defense was unable to come up with stops to get the Dragons back in the game.
Colds was 3-for-7 from behind the arc. He has averaged 17.6 points per game in his last three contests. Chris Fouch added 14 points, 12 of those coming in the second half. Daryl McCoy was the only other Dragon in double figures with 10 points.
Kris Joseph led Syracuse with 25 points. Scoop Jardine added 21 points on 9-for-10 shooting. Syracuse outrebounded Drexel, 38-27, marking the first time all season the Dragons have been outrebounded.
The Dragons held the Orange offense in check for the early going in the first half, and trailed by just four at 16-12. However, Syracuse went on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 11 points at 23-12. The Dragons had trouble scoring for a stretch late in the half as Syracuse's lead stayed in double digits. Daryl McCoy and Samme Givens each scored six in the half for the Dragons, who shot just 29 percent from the floor, and trailed, 35-22, at intermission.
The Dragons are off for the holiday break. They return to action on Dec. 28 with a home game against Niagara at the Daskalakis Athletic Center at 7 p.m.
