Dragons Close 2010 With an 84-39 Victory Against Niagara

Philadelphia – Drexel went on an early 19-0 run and cruised to an 84-39 non-conference win against Niagara. The Dragons held Niagara to just four field goals in the first half as they improved to 9-2 on the season. Chris Fouch scored a game-high 19 points and Daryl McCoy had a career-high 17 points as the Dragons won for the seventh time in their last eight games.
The Purple Eagles (3-10) made their first shot of the game but missed their next 17 attempts. They were held without a field goal for a stretch of more than 12 minutes as Drexel opened up a 25-3 lead. The Dragons went to half with a 29-point lead as their defense held Niagara to just 15 percent shooting.
McCoy had his best offensive game of his career. The sophomore finished 8-for-12 from the floor and also had nine rebounds including five on the offensive end. Fouch had five three-pointers and his fourth three-pointer of the night gave him 100 in his career. Frantz Massenat continued his solid play. The freshman tied a Drexel freshman record with 11 assists. He tied the mark set by Michael Anderson against Delaware during the 1984-85 season and had just one turnover on the night. Samme Givens chipped in with 14 points and Gerald Colds had a solid all-around night with 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
The Dragons shot 54 percent from the floor and had season-highs with 84 points and 28 assists. They continued to dominate their opponents on the boards, outrebounding the Purple Eagles, 49-27. The Dragons had 17 offensive boards which led to 26 second-chance points.
Anthony Nelson led Niagara with 14 points. He was the only Purple Eagle to finish with more than 10 points.
The Dragons begin the main part of their Colonial Athletic Association schedule on Jan. 3 when Hofstra visits the Daskalakis Athletic Center for a 7 p.m. tip-off. It will be the first of three games in six days for the Dragons.
