Dragons Wrap Up Non-Conference Slate With 64-37 Win Over Texas- San Antonio

San Diego - Drexel closed out its run at the San Diego State Surf n' Slam Tournament and the 2010 calendar year with a win. Kamile Nacickaite's 16 points led three Dragons in double figures as Drexel ran past Texas- San Antonio 64-37. The Dragons opened a 19-4 lead on the Roadrunners and never let up in an excellent all-around effort. Drexel held UTSA to just 25 percent shooting from the field and 3-for-19 from distance in what was statistically their second best defensive performance of the season. Drexel improves to 8-3, their best non-conference start under Head Coach Denise Dillon, while UTSA falls to 4-9 on the season. Nacickaite earned a place on the Surf N' Slam All-Tournament Team for her play during the week.
Taylor Wootton matched her career high with 13 points. Ayana Lee pulled down six rebounds to set her career high and Hollie Mershon chipped in 11 points and six rebounds off the bench. Drexel shot 46.4 percent in the game and knocked down half of its 16 three-point attempts. The Dragons also outrebounded UTSA 38-29. Jasmina Rosseel led the team with five assists to go with eight points.
Drexel used a suffocating defensive performance to work its way into a 19-4 lead to open play against UTSA. The Roadrunners missed nine of their first 10 shots and struggled through a span of more than eight and half minutes without a score, while the Dragons would score 14 straight points before receiving a response from UTSA.
UTSA would close to within 11 points courtesy of a late run capped by an Ashley Gardner jumper in the lane to make it a 28-17 game. But Rosseel would close the half with a long three-pointer from the elbow to keep the Dragons in possession of a comfortable 31-17 lead.
Drexel held the Roadrunners to just 5-for-22 shooting from the field and 1-for-9 from three-point distance. On the other side of the court, Drexel shot 42.9 percent (12-28) and knocked down 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
