Philadelphia - Drexel Crew will return to the Schuylkill River on Saturday, March 20 after opening the spring season in less than favorable conditions last Saturday. The Dragons will welcome Villanova and Lehigh for dual races as Drexel prepares for the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday, March 27. With steady downpour, only eights raced in the Dragons' dual with La Salle, Saint Joseph's and Delaware. This Saturday's race is scheduled to feature four races with fours and a pair race in addition to eights.
The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men's varsity four competition followed by the women's varsity four. All three schools have a boat entered in the race. Following the varsity fours, men's novice eights will face-off with Lehigh and Drexel entering boats for the race that is scheduled to start at 9:54 a.m.
At 10:06 a.m. the duo of Andrew Burns and Peter Schmidt will return to the men's pair. The last time the two raced together in the spring came in the Dad Vail Regatta where they earned a berth in the grand finals. The twosome will race against a pair from Lehigh.
Following the pair event, novice four racing will begin with the men scheduled to start at 10:20 a.m. and the women's slate to begin at 10:35 a.m. Drexel and Villanova will be the lone entrants in the event. The final race before varsity eight competition will be the women's second varsity eight race featuring Drexel and Villanova.
The finale of the dual begins at 11:05 a.m. as Villanova, Drexel and Lehigh will send their top women's varsity eight boat to the water. Right behind them will the men's varsity eight that will feature a boat from each school in addition to Drexel's second varsity eight boat.
