Dragons to Host 44th Annual Kerr Cup Regatta

Philadelphia - Drexel Crew will host the 44th Annual Kerr Cup Regatta on Saturday, April 17 on the Schuylkill River. The Dragons will be sending 14 different boats into action in the one-day regatta named after former Drexel Head Coach and Philadelphia Crew icon, the late Dr. Thomas Kerr. The action begins at 10:50 a.m. with the first preliminary heat of the men's varsity four.
Drexel's men's varsity four, in the LeBow College of Business boat with coxswain Michelle Lehman, stroke Kevin Rorabaugh, Mike Golden, Brennan Haydon and bow Pete Eyrich, will challenge Fordham, Villanova and VCU for one of three spots in the final. The second preliminary is scheduled to start at 11:02 a.m. Drexel's women's varsity four, in the Sandi Sheller boat with coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Jill Skovran, Brianna Simmers, Brooke Wertan and bow Chloe Swansen, drew lane one as the Dragons face a pair of Robert Morris boats, Army, Philadelphia University and VCU at 11:14 a.m. Fours continue to race at 11:26 a.m. as two Villanova boats, Old Dominion and VCU will challenge the Drexel novice four with coxswain Arlin Katz, stroke Natasha Martines, Mollie Cusack, Alexa Antonioli and bow Jami Ruane, who will be rowing out of lane five. The men's novice four, in the Dawn Byers boat with coxswain Matt Weston, stroke Nick Jensen, Dylan Siegfried, John Luciani and bow Corey Barnes, follows with Drexel in lane one against Villanova, La Salle and two boats from Army at 11:38 a.m.
Drexel sends two duos into action in both the men's and women's pair races. At 11:50 Drexel's women's boats featuring Julia Jackson and Emily Coyle along with Casondra Clawson and Dana Haneman will face Philadelphia University and Villanova while the men's two pairs consisting of Aleksandar Radovic and Kyle Fabel along with Liam O'Neill and Peter Schmidt will take on Philadelphia University and La Salle.
The men's novice eight in the Vince Vidas boat with coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Kurt Linton, Adam Cordi, Tim Drake, Rylan Treffinger, John Kile, Kam Palagi, Zach Antunes and bow Paul Wisniowski, will feature a three-boat race with the Dragons taking on Army and VCU at 12:14 p.m. The men's varsity four final follows at 12:26 p.m. before the women's novice eight in the John A. Daskalakis boat with coxswain Mary Beth Geyer, stroke Amanda Dargay, Danielle Frigerio, Brogan Piecara, Lillian Reed, Leila Aboharb, Elise Panacek, Katie Cheng and bow Mairin McKinlay will feature the same three boats as the men's race at 12:38 p.m.
The varsity eight races begin at 12:50 p.m. with second varsity eight racing beginning at 12:50 with the Drexel women in the Marlene Buckley boat with coxswain Alex Paulin, stroke Natasha Martines, Mollie Cusack, Alexa Antonioli, Jami Ruane, Colleen Owens, Samantha Cowan, Megan Bush and bow Asiya Mahmud will be taking on Villanova and Old Dominion. At 1:02 p.m. Drexel's men's second varsity eight, with coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Aleksandar Radovic, Kyle Fabel, Anthony Fittipaldi, Greg Pierce, Brian Timlin, Lorenzo Albala, Nick Buyse and bow Jacob Sloan, as well as the novice eight will race Army. At 1:14 p.m. the race for the Lela Kerr Cup begins as the women's varsity eight, with coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Candice Webb, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Mallory Sykes, Juliana DeMarici, Emily Coyle, Casondra Clawson and bow Mary Kain, will pit Drexel in lane three against Army, Villanova, Philadelphia University and Old Dominion. The race for the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup is slated to start at 1:26 p.m. as Drexel, in lane two, will face VCU, Fordham, La Salle, and Army. The Annette Pennoni will hold coxswain Steve Matyas, stroke Filip Topalovic, Gregg Francis, Marty Khait, Chris Hillenbrand, Ness Del Valle, Pat McGann, Mike Gartland and bow Will Masters who will be looking to capture the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup.
