
Drexel Crew to Compete in Bergen Cup Regatta and CAA Championships

Philadelphia – Drexel Crew will be in action on the Schuylkill River on Saturday, April 24 as it sends six men's boats and four women's boats to row in the Bergen and Kelly Cup hosted by Saint Joseph's. The action begins for this one-day regatta at 9:30 a.m. with the men's freshman four event. The Drexel women's varsity eight will be looking to defend their Kelly Cup title as the Philadelphia city champions of 2009. The following day the Dragons will head to the Occoquan River in Virginia for the second-ever CAA Women's Championship on Sunday, April 25 at Sandy Run Regional The event, hosted by George Mason, will feature three events beginning with the varsity four at 9:30 a.m.
The Dragons' freshmen four, in the Dawn Byers boat with coxswain Matt Weston, stroke Nick Jensen, Dylan Siegfried, John Luciani and bow Corey Barnes will challenge Villanova, Temple and La Salle from lane two. Drexel's next race starts at 9:54 a.m. when the men's pair, with stroke Liam O'Niell and bow Peter Schmidt, takes on Philadelphia University and La Salle.
The Dragons enter the varsity events at 10:06 a.m. when they send their women's four in the Sandra Lee Sheller boat with coxswain Caitlin Meehan, stroke Brooke Wertan, Brianna Simmers, Jill Skovran and bow Chloe Swansen up against a field of Temple, Philadelphia University and regatta host Saint Joseph's from lane one. Drexel men's varsity four in the Toby and Kim Oxholm boat with coxswain Michelle Lehmann, stroke Michael Gartland, Peter Eyrich, Kevin Rorabaugh and bow Brennan Haydon will face Temple A and B and Philadelphia University from lane two at 10:18 a.m.
Following the varsity four races, the eight man shell events begin at 10:30 a.m. The women's freshman eight rowing in the John A. Daskalakis boat with coxswain Mary Beth Geyer, stroke Amanda Dargay, Elise Panacek, Leila Aboharb, Lillian Reed, Brogan Piecara, Mairin McKinlay, Kathie Cheng and bow Danielle Frigerio will face Saint Joseph's in a head-to-head battle to the finish line.
The Dragons then race at 10:42 a.m. in the freshmen eight event against Saint Joseph's A and B. Drexel will launch the Vince Vidas boat with coxswain Justin Malley, stroke Kurt Linton, Adam Cordi, Tim Drake, Rylan Treffinger, John Kile, Kam Palagi, Zach Antunes and bow Paul Wisniowski to take on the Hawks.
The women's second varsity eight race will feature Drexel in lane one up against Saint Joseph's and Temple at 10:54 a.m. The Dragons will launch the Marlene Buckley with coxswain Alex Paulin, stroke Natasha Martines, Mollie Cusack, Alexa Antonioli, Jami Ruane, Colleen Owens, Samantha Cowan, Megan Bush and bow Asiya Mahmud. At 11:06 a.m. the men's second varsity event will feature a four-boat race with the Dragons rowing the Annette Pennoni with coxswain Steve Matyas, Filip Topalovic, Gregg Francis, Marty Khait, Chris Hillenbrand, Ernesto Del Valle, Lorenzo Albala, Michael Golden and bow Pat McGann in lane two against Saint Joseph's A and B and Temple.
At 11:18 a.m. the women will row to defend their Kelly Cup title from last year. Drexel will occupy lane two in a five-boat race with coxswain Cate Khella, stroke Candice Webb, Dana Haneman, Julia Jackson, Mallory Sykes, Juliana DeMarici, Emily Coyle, Casondra Clawson and bow Mary Kain as they take on Temple, Saint Joseph's, Philadelphia University and La Salle. Immediately following, at 11:30 a.m., the men will take to the water for the final event of the day as five varsity eight boats challenge for the Bergen Cup title. From lane two, the Dragons with coxswain Randall Lee, stroke Aleksander Radovic, Kyle Fabel, Anthony Fittipaldi, Greg Pierce, Brian Timlin, Will Masters, Nick Buyse and bow Jacob Sloan will face Saint Joseph's, Temple, Philadelphia University and Villanova.
