Drexel Tennis Takes on George Mason in Fairfax Wednesday

Philadelphia - Drexel men's and women's tennis will both be in action on Wednesday when the teams travel to play a conference dual match against the George Mason Patriots in Fairfax, Va. The women (7-4, 2-1) are coming off a 5-2 conference win over Towson last Saturday, while the men (5-6, 1-2) have been off since their 6-1 defeat of Saint Joseph's on March 31.
At the top of the lineup, Nikoloz Kurdadze and Manu Bajpai have been playing their best tennis of the year in recent matches. Kurdadze gutted out a three-set victory against the Hawks' Alex Veronis in his last match. He lost the opening set 6-3 and battled back for a 7-5 win in the second set before breaking Veronis' spirits in a 6-0 third-set win. Kurdadze has won five of his last seven singles matches and teams with Bajpai at first doubles where the pair has yet to drop a match this season. Bajpai is 8-6 on the season and has not lost a match since Head Coach Tricia Udicious moved him to second singles in the spring season.
The Patriot men are 7-12 overall and 0-3 in CAA play. George Mason is a young team this season. The Patriots have just one senior on the squad and a led by a talented group of underclassmen. Freshman Kevin McMillen who is 12-12 overall and 6-8 at second doubles. Sophomore Jorge Osuna is 10-15 overall and 6-11 at first singles. Mason has lost 10 of its last 12 matches coming into Wednesday's competition.
The Drexel women are riding the momentum of two straight wins coming into Wednesday's CAA dual. Elise Leizerovich has given Coach Udicious some important flexibility in the middle of the singles lineup this season. The sophomore is 11-5 overall and has posted a 5-1 mark at fourth singles and a 4-2 record and fifth singles. At the top of the lineup Zineb Hilali and Gozde Unkaya have thrived since entering dual match play in the spring season. Hilali is 6-3 overall at first singles and Unkaya is 8-3 at first and second singles combined.
The George Mason women are 16-7 overall and 1-2 in CAA matches this season. The Patriots' lone conference win came against Towson in the fall at the Tigers' 4 + 1 Tournament. Mason has won three of its last four matches entering the week. Brooke Blackwell is one of the top players in the conference this year. She is 14-1 overall and 13-1 at fourth singles in dual matchplay. Aryn Christman has an equally impressive 15-5 overall mark and she is 14-6 in dual matches while splitting time between third, fourh, fifth and sixth singles. On the doubles side Kiersten Pappas and Lindsay Gray bost an impressive 11-3 record at first singles.
