Henley-on-Thames, England - Drexel sent its varsity eight to compete in one of the most prestigious events in rowing, the Henley Women's Regatta, as the boat had an opportunity to take the water with the best in the sport. The Dragons left the water with the Elite 8 championship and the Sports Council Cup after winning their semi-final race against a boat comprised of some of the best English women's rowers before defeating Grand Valley in the final. The title completes a remarkable season for Drexel that included a bronze medal at the Dad Vail Regatta and victory in the Bergen Cup Regatta.
The Drexel varsity eight of bow Mary Kain, Cassie Clawson, Emily Coyle, Juliana DeMarici, Mallory Sykes, Julia Jackson, Dana Haneman, stroke Candice Webb and coxswain Cate Khella opened their racing at the regatta with a stunning result as the Dragons outlasted the British boat and finished one length ahead of the boat that many had picked as the favorite in the competition. The win set up a showdown with Grand Valley who edged Saint Joseph's by one-third of a boat at the line. The final was rematch of the final of the Dad Vail Regatta where Grand Valley was denied a medal as the boat finished fifth while Drexel claimed the bronze with its third-place finish. Grand Valley was once again unable to finish ahead of the Dragons as Drexel won by a one and one-half boat margin to claim the most prestigious title in the history of the women's crew program.
