Box Score
Philadelphia, Pa. – Hofstra broke a scoreless tie with a pair of goals in a span of five minutes in the second half and defeated Drexel at Vidas Field, 2-1.
The Pride's (9-1, 3-0 CAA) Amber Stobbs scored the first goal of the game with just over 20 minutes remaining in the match. She lofted a shot from near the sidelines and somehow managed to get the ball past Drexel goalkeeper Victoria Troccoli.
Laura Green gave the Pride an insurance goal a few minutes later. Tiffany Yovino beat Troccoli to the ball and headed it to Green, who was in behind the defense, for an open-net goal, which gave the Pride its ninth-straight win.
Drexel got on the board in the 81st minute of play. Junior Katie Duncan fired a shot from just over midfield that was initially saved by Emily Morphitis, who started the second half in goal for Hofstra. However, Morphitis couldn't control the rebound, and Drexel freshman Jess Sarkisian got the ball to Juliana Speroni, who had an open net and cut the Pride lead to one with just under 10 minutes to play in the match. Drexel had the ball in the Pride's end for a good portion of the final 10 minutes but couldn't get another past Morphitis. Nicole Sinclair came in the game for Drexel for the final 11 minutes of play and made a big save from point-blank range to keep it close.
The Pride outshot Drexel, 10-2, in the first half. One of Hostra's best chances came with just late in the half. Tiffany Yovino broke in on the left side and fired a shot through the box, but hit the post. The rebound was shot wide.
Ashley Klun had a chance to give the Dragons the lead with just under 11 minutes left in the first half. Klun broke in and took a nice feed from Jenna Lindsay. She blasted a shot that was headed for the upper right corner of the goal, but Hofstra's Krista Thorn jumped up and knocked the ball over the goal to keep the game scoreless.
Overall, Hofstra outshot Drexel, 20-7. Each team had five saves, with Troccoli recording four for the Dragons. Drexel returns to CAA play on Sunday against Northeastern in Boston, Mass.
