Philadelphia - Fans can welcome the women's basketball team back to the DAC tonight as the Dragons return from a five-game road swing to play their first home game in nearly a month tonight against Georgia State (5-7, 0-1). Tonight's 7:00 p.m. tip will be the team's first taste of CAA basketball on its home court this season as the 8-4 (0-1) Dragons look to bounce back from a tough road loss at UNC Wilmington last Sunday. Tickets are available at the door, online at www.drexeltickets.com or by calling 1-866-4-DREXEL. Fans can also follow the action via live stats, streaming audio and video which can be viewed in both adobe flash player and .html formats for smartphone users by visiting Drexel Game Central, the drexeldragons.com mobile site or downloading the Drexel Sports App for iphones and ipads.
Kamile Nacickaite led the Dragons with 19 points against the Seahawks on Sunday. The junior guard, who was honored as a member of the San Diego State Surf n' Slam All-Tournament Team over the holiday break, is ranked among the top three-point and free-throw shooters in the nation this week. Forward Taylor Wootton played well in the post for the Dragons, pulling down 10 rebounds and handing out five assists, which were both career highs. Drexel outworked the Sehawks on the boards and pulled down a season-high 19 rebounds, but UNC Wilmington's lights-out shooting (64.4 percent) was too much for the Dragons to overcome in the 69-61 loss.
Georgia State is also coming off a loss in its CAA opener, 71-47 against George Mason on Sunday. The Panthers are 5-7 under first-year Head Coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener. Baldwin-Tener, however, was 2-0 against the Dragons during her time as head coach at East Carolina, including last year's WNIT opening-round win by the Lady Pirates at the DAC. The Panthers' top player thus far this season has been Chan Harris. The junior forward is one of the league's top all-around players, averaging better than 13 points and 10 rebounds per game on the season. Center Cody Paulk is one of the league's best shot-blockers and a presence in the post for Georgia State.
Tonight's game is the ninth meeting between Drexel and Georgia State since 2005-06. The Dragons are 6-2 against the Panthers since they've been a member of the conference. Georgia State won the teams' last meeting, however, edging Drexel, 60-58, on Feb. 25, 2010 in Atlanta. Gabriela Marginean scored 34 points. Angelique Burtts scored 20 points to lead Georgia State. The Panthers shot 61 percent in the second half and overcame 20 turnovers in the game.
The Dragons are 5-0 on their home court this season and will look to continue that streak tonight against the Panthers. Pat Delsi and Ari Bluestein will be calling the action on live audio at www.drexeldragons.com. You can also
