Philadelphia – The Drexel women's soccer team ended its home season with a scoreless tie against VCU on Senior Day. Drexel improved to 3-3-2 in CAA play while VCU is now 3-2-3 in conference matches. Eve Badana made 11 saves as the Dragons finished the 2011 season unbeaten at home.

Each team had chances to win the match, both in regulation and in overtime. Drexel (5-7-4) looked as if it had a victory with 15 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. Megan Hammaker hit the post with 15 after a nice move at the top of the box set her up for a blistering left footer. In the second overtime, the Rams (5-7-4) had a similar opportunity when Azania blasted a shot off the crossbar with just seven minutes left.

The Rams had two big scoring chances in the final minutes of regulation. A VCU player was taken down in the box with 3:12 remaining, resulting in a penalty kick. Meaghan Dullea stepped up to take the kick and blasted a shot headed for the far right corner. However, Drexel's Badana made a diving save to keep the game scoreless. The Rams almost broke the tie again with just over a minute to play. Heather Hovanesian came in on the right side and was challenged by Badana. She shot the ball past Badana, but Allie Mungioli cleared the shot out before it was able to cross the goal line.

Drexel's best chance in regulation came in the 70^th minute. Jess Lowinger stripped the center back of the ball about 50 yards away. She broke in one-on-one, but her shot was saved by Kristen Carden, who raced out to the edge of the box, cut down the angle and made the save. Earlier in the half, Drexel's Sam Greenfield hit the crossbar after cutting back to her left from inside the top of the box. The shot hit and bounced straight down, where it was grabbed by the Rams' keeper Kristin Carden. It was one of four saves on the day for the Rams' keeper.

Drexel finished the year with a 5-0-3 record at Vidas Field. It is the first time in program history that the team ended the season unbeaten at home. Drexel plays its final three matches on the road as it tries to earn a spot in the upcoming CAA Tournament. The Dragons start the stretch on Friday at Towson.
